Programming Schedule:

12:00pm – 12:20pm: ha wan pao – the friendly paper
Speaker: Anna Gleeson
ha wan pao is a monthly paper with a cult following about people who make beautiful things. This talk will be about how it started, the intention of the publication, a little about the design process, editorial stance and how much fun it’s been to create.
Anna Gleeson is a multi-media artist, illustrator and publisher. Originally from Australia, after stints in Berlin, New York and Tokyo she is now based in Hong Kong. Her recent work – a series of pochoirs of dresses and vessels – can be seen upstairs at Teakha through til the end of June.

1:00pm – 1:20pm: GA Introduction to Front End Web Development
Speaker: Paddy Cheung (GA alumni)
Learn how to design and code beautiful, interactive client-facing websites!
Gaining experience with HTML/CSS and JavaScript is an essential 21st century skill. Most products and companies have a digital component to them, and more professionals work closely with technical teams. Designers and journalists, just to name a few types of professionals, can gain a competitive edge by learning web development skills. Use it to bring your ideas online to the digital space, make edits and updates to your own website, and communicate more effectively with technical stakeholders.

2:00pm – 2:20pm: Upcycling Product Design
Speaker: Kevin Cheung
Looking at the environmental crisis our world is facing, upcyling product designer Kevin Cheung (張瑋晉) believes that designs have to be sustainable by enriching the environment, users as well as the society. Instead of continually draining new resources/materials to create new products, Kevin is experimenting with waste materials, reusing them to create new products and also collaborating with different NGOs to produce the products locally. He wishes to inspire people to have a new perspective of how products are being made, consumed and disposed.

3:00pm – 3:20pm: GA Introduction to User Experience Design
Speaker: Anindita Saha (GA alumni)
Make your product delightful for all users!
As the internet has grown and become pervasive in our lives, the world has gotten smaller. More and more, as consumers, we can share our experiences. For a company, great experiences can be a competitive advantage. They can keep your customers loyal and turn them into your biggest cheerleaders. On the flip side, terrible experiences can stop you in your tracks very quickly. Building great user experiences requires listening and empathy. In this course you’ll learn the tools and techniques to make your products delightful for users.

4:00pm – 4:20pm: The Yesterdayskin – Reformed Vintage Pieces
Speaker: Eileen Chan
Bringing the past back to present, The Yesterdayskin is a very personal label collecting reformed vintage pieces. Founded in Spring 2010, by Hong Kong based fashion designer Eileen Chan. We focus on potential but not-so-perfect vintage findings. Forgotten outfits and accessories are handpicked from all over the world, restyled and reconstructed by us into new fashionable looks. All pieces are unique yet affordable, we want to share with all fashion lovers the treasures we found from history.

5:00pm – 5:20pm: GA Introduction to Digital Marketing
Speaker: Valerie Teh (GA alumni)
Optimize your digital marketing campaign!
The evolution of digital in the last 6 years has completely changed the way that people communicate, learn, and consume products. More than ever, brands have the ability to reach out to more customers and actually listen to them in order to tailor their messaging, brand, and product strategies. The Digital Marketing course takes a holistic view of digital marketing, whilst really focusing on the more quantitative and data-driven aspects of contemporary marketing.

6:00pm – 6:20pm: LOHAS designs for urban living
Speaker: Karta Healy
How can we all coexist naturally in a city. With half the worlds population expected to live in cities by 2050, how can we prepare us all for a life of balance and equanimity. From Solutions to Pollution, water/air quality to food security and personal transportation. A major rethink is needed, and designers can lead us into a Lifestyle Of Health And Sustainability. LOHAS
